What is in a Name

So here I am at work on a Saturday afternoon, earning some Christmas money when I find myself completely bored. Yes, it does happen sometimes in Labor and Delivery. Sometimes there just are no babies to be delivered. Usually I have a book in my locker to read, but today I am with out. Now that I've surfed the web, I am searching for something, anything to read. Not the policy and procedure manual, I'm not that desperate. Then I found this "100,000+ Baby Names." I'm thinking it's something like research.

As I was flipping through the pages I thought I'd look up some names that I'm familiar with. I started with some of my friends' children's names. Who know who you are, you with the unusual names. Then I moved on to my parents and I found something interesting. Here it goes using our given or as I like to say "real, legal names."

My mom- Linda meaning "pretty" (okay)
My dad- Lawrence meaning "crowned with laurel" (interesting)
Together they had a Stephanie Christian meaning "crowned" and "anointed"
That's me- the queen in a house full of men

Mark's side
Donna Jean- "lady" and "God is gracious"
James Lee- "supplanter, substitute" and "bull meadow or sheep meadow"
Together they had a Mark James meaning "warlike, martial"
That's him keeping the peace in a house full of boys, but being gracious at the same time. He has the patience of a saint.

Now for the boys.
Jacob Lee- basically the same as Mark's dad- their names come from the same name family.

Joseph Lee- God will add, God will increase. Little did we know. Wait here it comes.

Jonathan Lee- gift from God. And that he truly is. Our little unexpected blessing.

Now maybe this was completely useless information for you, but it occupied my time and was good "research". Now I don't feel as if I've wasted my day completely.

FYI- mom, the name "Hoyt" means "mind, spirit" good thing we didn't go that direction much to great-grandpa's wishes. I would have had a spirited, bull meadow boy, or a bull minded meadow, or a meadow full of spirited bulls.

It's time to stop now, but if someone comes in to have their baby today and wants to name it Takenya, Giacobba or Yitzchak I will be ready!

I was just studying Isaiah and these names and meanings jumped out at me.

Shear-jashub: means a remnant shall return

Maher-shalal-hash-baz: means Swift is the booty, speedy is the prey

Kind of glad you didn't use those for your boys. =)
