Old Glory

Last Tuesday at Boy Scouts we were able to take part in a unique ceremony.

It was time to retire the old flag that has waved above the scout hut for quite some time. Seeing that we were to retire this flag, our scout master asked the church and community for any additional flags that needed to be retired.

The flag was brought down.


Then brought to the fire and unfolded.

The flag was then taken apart. As each stripe was cut from the flag and placed in the fire, the original 13 colonies were announced in order of uniting with the new Union.

Then as each flag was placed in the fire, the boys gave it a last salute.

Even Jonny was quick to catch on.

Any veteran in attendance was encouraged to take part. Here is one Air Force dad with his son.

Jacob was one of the mc's. He did a great job. Didn't miss a beat with any of his dialogue.

Finally, all the flags have been retired. We had a lot of flags. My guess would be over 30.

It was one of those moments that makes you truly "Proud to be An American." Also, giving our boys a chance to learn and respect our flag. Symbol of our nation.
